I’m a diehard Liverpool fan but Howard Kendall was one of the greatest managers in English football he never got the credit he deserved Also I think he would’ve been a great England manager

I've got tears in my eyes watching that. His passion for the club was unbelievable. A very astute manager too. Despite his goals, knowing Lineker was the reason why we didn't play as a team, but I've said that all along and it was no coincidence that we won the league the following season without him. I didn't know about Brian Robson though. What a signing he would've been but then we wouldn't have had Southall, Steven, Bracewell, Reid or Sheedy! It's a shame his 2nd and 3rd spells were ruined by the board not backing him when he wanted to sign new players. An absolute legend. RIP Howard, and thank you for a lifetime of memories.

Had the pleasure of meeting Howard through work. Top man brought success for Everton after years in the shadows. I hope we can honour him at the new stadium because he deserves it for his work as a player and manager.

I knew Howard as a friend, later in his life when he lived in Formby and was kind enough to keep an eye on my elderly parents as I lived in Kent. I know nothing about football & once confided him that I had taken a book to read at a cup final. I thought he would laugh but he said quite seriously ‘someone would have killed for that ticket’. He was a lovely person, missed greatly as friend, although I appreciate football fans will pay tribute to his greatness as a player and a manager.

I saw him in Formby Village fairly early one Saturday morning a couple of years before he died and he seemed a bit lost. I could not help but think back to footage of him leading the team out at Wembley for the FA Cup Final in 1984 and the contrast with his difficulties in later life. In no way is this a judgement. I don't really care for football but it is ubiquitous. By all accounts he was a decent person and it comes across in this interview.

When we had Nev in goal away at Sheff Wed and behind the goal with our banners to ein the league. The saves Nev done ehere unbelievable.

I've just watched this talk with the GREAT MAN....I can't see properly with tears in my eyes......I absolutely love the man....Howard Kendall..a true EVERTON LEGEND!.....R I P HOWIE.......

Mr Everton,l was at his funeral what a fantastic turn out,well loved also had my picture taken with him outside Wembley after that Chelsea final,nice one Howard r.i.p. mate,his best ever signings as mentioned were easily Southall,Reid and Gray.

Wonderful interview Ian... Mr Kendall will always have a special place in the hearts and minds of Evertonians worldwide.

Amazing to think back & remember, just a few weeks before Inchy's Oxford goal ( 83-84 season ) ... I was watching a very poor blues league performance away to bottom team Leicester. Lowly Everton (league position) lost 0-2. I think it was Leicester's first league win that season. There were only about 200 of us in the away terrace, the lowest amount of us blues that I'd ever seen away. When the final whistle went every Evertonian in that away end, including myself, was chanting "Kendall OUT ". We were proved wrong, big-time, thankfully. HK, the greatest manager we'll ever have ... in my lifetime, anyway. RIP HK. A fantastic Evertonian.

Howard is right, the 1969 championship winning side was a truly great team BUT the way that midfield switched the play was just breathtaking. That's why they were described as the Holy Trinity. As for Alan Ball with his white boots - he was our Pele. Just watching him juggling with the ball when warming up on the pitch before the match was worth the admittance fee alone.

What a top bloke Howard was sorely missed by everyone connected to the club. I grew up watching his championship winning teams and it was just typical really that the ban on English clubs prevented him from having a good crack at the European Cup.

Listening to this interview, you could perfectly understand why a player under Howard would run through a brick wall for him. He seems a perfect gentleman. That Everton side of the mid 80s would give any of the modern teams a run for their money. It’s a travesty that they weren’t denied a fair crack at the then European Cup.

Watched Howard make his Everton debut in the later part of the 1966-67 season v Southampton at Goodison were we lost 1-0 He looked out of place in the team including Derek Temple, Alan Ball and Colin Harvey. When the 1967 -68 season began Harry Catterick started with the Kendall, Ball and Harvey link up for the first time. After a great win at home against Man Utd, form dipped and Everton signed Ernie Hunt to replace Alan Ball after impressing the Everton board with his passing vision and shooting skills in and around the penalty area. The move didn't work out and Hunt left 6 months later, and Bally stayed. Howard went on the produce great performances, with his finest against the great Leeds side in the 1968 FA Cup semi final, to outplay Giles and Bremner at their peak was some achievement. His team from 1984 to 87 gave us excitement and success we hadn't seen before . Having seen the 1963, and 1970 Everton teams who won the league title, in my humble opinion Howards 1985 team was Everton's finest. The Lineker transfer divided opinion, my own was it was a mistake that caused the collapse in the late 80s early 90s We came close to winning the double the year he played for us. In 1986 -87 we played well at the start and picked up points away. Liverpool were ahead in the new year and looked at set to win it again. When weeks into 1987 they lost key games to Wimbledon and Coventry. as Everton won away at Arsenal and Chelsea in successive games, which gave them impetus to go on a run, helped by goals from the recently signed Wayne Clarke. Lineker, often said he didn't want to leave Everton, Venables who had missed out on him later brought him to Spurs Lineker was a world class player, which was few a far between in later years. Howard, if he had stayed at Everton until 1990 would have succeeded Bobby Robson as England manager

Because the gaffer did not touch his wine lol what times we had under Howard live with me for ever years later I was coming home from a nite out in maguluf about 9-30am after leaving a lady and walked past a bar on the beach their was Mr kendal the boss sitting their reading a book with a bottle off wine on ice I sat with him for about 20mins fabulous man so well dressed he looked so smart in dress shorts and a lacoste shirt we chatted had a beer and left I'll never forgot that 20mins with Mr kendal RIP Howard thank you for everything

@@mrt8694 know need for H to do that he was open with his drinking never hidden his problem and loved a drink the bottle off top Spanish carva was on ice a true gentleman we never realy talked about everton he wanted to know more about me so respectfully towards me top man was H I got to the cathedral at 7am waited till it opened got sherched by the everton security at about 9am and was at the front off the vicker I was sitting just behind sharpie and inchie and Andy gray I even got into the lounge back at goodison for the players to show their respect after the wake was singing with snowie on the karaoke what a nite

Kendall wanted to play modern football like Burkinshaw and Ron Saunders etc..The failure to appoint Clough meant that managers like Kendall could not become more dominant in the English game and Heysel meant a five year ban which hit English footballers development, for instance Gary Stevens, Everton's right back at the time was really affected by that exclusion...RIP fella, you made an impact in this world..

If you watch the Everton /Man.U finale ,Gray never stopped moaning to the ref,if You watch at the end of the game Howard had real go at him in the centre circle.Gray cost us that game .Howard’s judgement c@not be questioned by anybody .
